Ana Nikolic - Serbian Folk Star

Ana Nikolic - Serbian Folk Star

Ana Nikolic was born on September 27,1978 in Paracin, a provincial town in central Serbia - once a part of the former Yugoslavia. She finished grammar school in her hometown and later opted to study fashion design in Belgrade (Serbia's capital). Before becoming famous, she sang in numerous clubs and bars in Belgrade.

She was quickly noticed by one of Serbia's greatest music producers (and composer), Aleksandar Milic. Ana's debut single, Januar (January), became a hit in the middle of Summer 2003. Her first album, also titled Januar, quickly became one of the top selling albums in Serbia and in a few neighboring countries of the former Yugoslavia. In 2004 she participated at the Suncane Skale Festival in Budva, Montenegro with the song Srecan mi ne dolazi (Don't come to me happy), which received great acclaim but failed to win a prize. In 2006 Ana competed in the Beovizija Festival, which determined the country's contestant for the Eurovision contest. Unfortunately, she failed to win yet again, but her song Romale Romali became one of the biggest hits of the year.

Her long awaited second album, Devojka od Cokolade (roughly translated as Chocolate Girl) was released in November 2006. She is mostly known for her deep voice and songs that are sung with a bit of an attitude. Ana has taken several dance classes and loves dancing to Latin music, especially salsa. In her early twenties, she has also lived in Greece for a couple of years and is fluent in the Greek language.

In private, Ana is a very family oriented and private individual. At the tender age of 18, Ana suffered a tragedy due to her father's sudden death, hence, her strong need for security in the household. She regards her mother and brother as best friends.
